Tihany is one of the most beautifully situated settlements in Hungary, a village rich in scenic and natural characteristics on the Tihany Peninsula jutting into Lake Balaton. A famous landmark of the place, still existing today, is the Tihany echo or reverberation, which was created between the Tihany Abbey and Visszhang-domb (Echo Hill) when buildings did not yet obstruct the free back-and-forth propagation of sound.
